When a believer has to beginany task, whether it is big or small, whether
it is routine or special, he or she must make it a habit to say ‘Bismillah’ or
‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem’. In English, ‘Bismillah’ means ‘In the Name of
Allah’ and ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem’ means ‘In the Name of Allah, the
Most Gracious, the Most Merciful’. Be it is something as everyday as having
your breakfast or going to office, or as extraordinary as undergoing a medical
operation or going for sky-diving, a Muslim must begin the task with the Beautiful
Name of Allah. Certainly, so paramount is the importance of this ayatthat it
very probable to see find ‘Bismillah’ written or painted or printed in a
calligraphic font and framed as on walls in Muslim homes. Muslims search for ‘Bismillah
Muslim Islamic art’ or ‘best
Bismillah art’ on the Internet as well.
What is the
significance of ‘Bismillah’or ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem’?
The opening verse in the Holy Quran is ‘Bismillah-ir-Raham-ir-Raheem’.
This fact itself indicates its importance. Then, all 114 chapters of the Quran,
except one, begin with this verse – further establishing its significance. If
the Word of Allah begins with this ayat, then why should His Creation also
begin his or her every task, his or her every day, with ‘Bismillah’?
Sheikh Maududi,
in his tafseer of the Holy Quran, explained the virtues and benefits of saying
Bismillah:
1) It allows one to restrain oneself from any misdeeds, since the habit of
pronouncing the name of God is bound to make one wonder when about to commit
some offence and how such an act can be reconciled with the saying of God’s
holy name.
2) When a person begins something by pronouncing Allah’s (God’s) name (with
sincerity in his heart), he will enjoy Allah’s support and succour; Allah will
bless his efforts and protect him from the machinations and temptation of
Satan. For whenever man turns to Allah (God), Allah turns to him as well.
Sheikh
Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid also explains the benefits of saying ‘Bismillah’: “When
one says ‘Bismillah’before starting anything, it means, ‘I start this action
accompanied by the Name of Allah or seeking help through the Name of Allah,
seeking blessing thereby. Allah is God, the Beloved and Worshipped, to Whom
hearts turn in love, veneration and obedience (worship). He is al-Rahman (the
Most Gracious) Whose attribute is vast mercy; and al-Raheem (the Most Merciful)
Who causes that mercy to reach His creation.’
Most certainly, the
words ‘Bismillah’ or its fuller version ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem’ pervades
the life of every believing, practising Muslim across the world. It therefore
comes as nosurprise or wonder that Bismillah
Muslim Islamic art is much sought after in the field of Islamic home décor.
Many Muslims search for ‘best Bismillah art’on the Internet as well. They want
such art for their homes or offices because it can be a frequent and spiritual
reminder of the Name, the Mercy, the Grace, and indeed, the Blessings of
Almighty Allah all the time.
